On the seventh floor of the Volkshotel, Canvas is a place to work, eat, drink and party while admiring spectacular views over Amsterdam.

Open daily from 7:00 to 1:00, and turning into a club at the weekends from 23:00 until the early hours, Canvas provides a perfect work and play environment. In case this sounds like a bit too much play for you, Volkshotel offers multiple other spots for getting down to some work too. Early birds can start working at 7:00 in Café Werkplaats, or rent a desk or meeting room in the adjoining co-working space for a reasonable fee.

Pretty much the whole of the Volkshotel is designed by Bas van Tol, known for his designs featuring steel, glass, wood and concrete. Aside the ‘standard’ rooms designed by Bas, the hotel offers nine other rooms designed by creative minds. This gives visitors the opportunity to sleep in rooms with clean, modern designs, or one featuring a life-sized reindeer.

Volkshotel has one more hidden gem in its basement. Initially used as a replacement location while Canvas was being refurbished, the cocktail bar Doka has re-opened its doors at the weekends from 23:00 until 7:00, and on Thursdays from 23:00 until 4:00-ish. Doka is inspired by the speakeasy culture seen in 1920s era New York, and is set to become a place to see and be seen on Amsterdam’s bar scene.
