With newly launched 360° virtual reality videos it’s now possible to explore Tokyo and the northern countryside without even getting on a plane.

The series of virtual reality videos were launched to attract more visitors. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is boosting their promotional activities with an eye on the Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games in 2020, which will be hosted in Tokyo.

The videos introduce the western part of the Tama area and Tokyo’s islands. The films give an insight into what visitors can experience in the countryside, which is very different from the typical urban image of Tokyo.

The videos show key events and destinations. They were filmed in all four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. For winter you can watch Christmas lights in Tokyo or go skiing in Yamagata. But you can also get a preview of the different summer festivals or walk through the autumn coloured parks. You can even go shopping or experience the hospitality of hotels and restaurants.

Enjoy these panoramic images from every angle on your computer or on your smartphone. For more videos click on the image above or on the title of the video below.
