New York’s skyline may be in line to get an innovative new landmark. It will not break the record of being the tallest skyscraper, but it will be the world’s longest building.

Building skyscrapers has become a trend every big city wants to join. Developers all over the world keep building them higher and higher. Currently the record of tallest building is held by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, reaching 828 metres into the air. The tallest building in the United States, and the fourth tallest in the world, is currently One World Trade Center in New York, which is 541 metres tall.

“If we manage to bend our structure instead of bending the zoning rules of New York we would be able to create one of the most prestigious buildings in Manhattan.” – Ioannis Oikonomou, founder of Oiio Studio

Impressive architecture

An architectural firm from New York has unveiled a creative design for a new skyscraper. The U-shaped building has a very slender structure, which means it doesn’t take up much space. The structure bends at the top and continues back down to the ground. The Big Bend would be a bit higher than the current tallest building in New York. From end to end the building would be 1.22 kilometres long, which would make it the longest building in the world. That’s right, not the tallest, but the longest.

“The Big Bend can become a modest architectural solution to the height limitations of Manhattan. We can now provide our structures with the measurements that will make them stand out without worrying about the limits of the sky.” – Ioannis Oikonomou, founder of Oiio Studio

Whether or not this concept will become a reality is still very questionable. Oiio Studio is currently looking for developers to invest in it. Whatever happens, it will definitely raise a lot of interest and curiosity about architecture and city planning.
