One of the hippest hotel exports from the US invited Citizen Carl to check out its property in stylish Shoreditch. Ace Hotel London – we weren’t disappointed…
London’s Shoreditch has become a city hub for creativity and hipsters, so it’s no wonder Ace Hotel London decided to set up a home there. By day, creative trendsetters sell their wares in the likes of BOXPARK Shoreditch, and lazy brunches are had at industrial-trendy spots such as The Bike Shed. By night, queues form outside hip hangouts such as the glittering bar/club that is imaginatively named ‘The Shoreditch’.
Ace Hotel London slots into the Shoreditch scene seamlessly. The wide lobby is clearly a meeting place for local creatives, who congregate around laptops on the long table and on large, comfortable denim-clad sofas. The bar serves Camden Hells lager and cocktails, while DJ sets make every evening a reason to party.
Upstairs, double deluxe rooms have an industrial but homely feel, where every attention is paid to design details and creature comforts. While the musically minded can play the guitar hanging from the wall, business visitors can get some laptop time at the sturdy oak table lit by a pendant light. This very table perfectly doubles as an entertainment spot, flanked on one side by a huge sofa bank. Larger suites have living rooms, large Smeg fridges, and some have outdoor space.
A cacophony of goods are available for use in the room that can be paid for later: ideal for those who don’t want to think too much about what to pack before they travel. Food and snacks from popcorn to Pot Noodles sate hunger pangs, while foot cream and salt soaks in the bathroom form a welcome home from long days out. A fridge full of coconut water, soft drinks, bubbles and beers means the start of a night out can begin early, while the whiskey and vodka on the shelf allow it to carry on into the early morning. The painkillers in the bathroom are presumably in place to aid the morning-after recovery…
The low beds themselves give the Ace Hotel London a true home-from-home feeling: spacious, comfortable, and covered with Ace’s own line of bedding, which is some of the best we’ve come across in a hotel room. Visitors can drop off to sleep easily by listening to the bedtime stories played via the in-room radios. The more active-minded don’t have to give up their fitness regimes while travelling either: in the basement is a well-stocked gym and a sauna.
The Ace Hotel London embodies everything travelling trendsetters look for. Design-friendly with home comforts and playful touches, it’s an ideal spot to lay your head for the night in London.
