The exhibition, A Retrospective, which will be held from 17 June to 4 September 2016, will feature more than 200 photographs by Helmut Newton. The luxury fashion brand and main sponsor, Wolford, will team up with Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam for this extraordinary exhibition.
The German-Australian photographer, who was born in Berlin in 1920 and died in 2004, is considered by many to be the most iconic photographer of the last quarter of the 20th century. The work of this legendary and supremely influential photographer will be on show in Foam, taking up the entire building, and featuring everything from his barely displayed early work to his monumental, career-defining photos. The majority of the work displayed comprise the vintage prints from the collection of the Helmut Newton Foundation. A custom piece of art made by Sayuri Chetti will also be on display, made out of Wolford yarns and materials.
“A Helmut Newton retrospective has been on our wish list for years! In Wolford we have found a highly suitable partner in realising this fantastic exhibition, that shares our passion for Newton’s work, having worked with him extensively themselves.” Marloes Krijnen – director of Foam
Helmut Newton made his breakthrough in 1970 when he made an iconic series of photos in Monte Carlo, commissioned by Wolford. The series visualised modern and emancipated women undergoing a social transition at that time.
