Vuurtoreneiland, Dutch for ‘Lighthouse Island’, is an exhilarating restaurant situated on a small island just outside Amsterdam.
During spring and summer, guests dine in a glass house on the island that provides a spectacular view from an intimate setting. In the colder periods of the year, the glass house is closed and dinner is served in the bunker. Complete with some blankets and a fireplace, the restaurant becomes warm and intimate.
The restaurateurs at Vuurtoreneiland always serve a fixed menu using local products and an authentic style of cooking. The whole experience lasts for about five hours and costs €55 per person. This includes the one hour boat ride between the ‘mainland’ and the island, welcome drinks and snacks aboard the boat and a five course meal (drinks excluded). Five hours gives diners plenty of time to enjoy the meal as well as to explore some of the nature and bunkers on the island. It almost feels like a mini-holiday. There’s also a regular Sunday Matinee event; check out their website for more information.
This place is popular: interested diners need to reserve their spot in advance, or check the Facebook page for last minute availability.
